Christmas goodies

Hubby gave me the Embossing tips and the Inspirations box. The inlaws gave me 3 cards – Mistletoe, Big Kids & Vintage Findings.

Hoping to have a play with them either tonight or tomorrow, so will have some creations to share in the next few days :)

Yum LO

Here is a LO I did a couple of weeks ago and where I went to town with using my slice.

I used the Noteworthy Card to create the frame for the title, I used Basic 1 for some of the circles, and I used Animal Crackers for all the embellies.

Have you all been to visit whyslice.com lately? I went there the other day and it looks like there is going to be a new tool you can buy for your slice, coming out in Feb 2010 which is a Drawing Tip. Can't wait to see how it works.

Also, one of our featured artists, Katie Howard has been working her slice to the bone, and she has some wonderful LO's on her blog at the moment.

MS+ Slice Cards

I received my frist MS+ Slice card in the mail yesterday and upgraded my slice and it is now SOOOOOO fast. Just love it. I was also mucking around with the shadow and mirror functionality and it looks like it is going to be LOTS of fun. I got the Holiday Words and Expressions card, but I have also ordered Spook Alley because of the font and the frames it comes with. I'll see if I can make a LO using some of the shadow functionality over the weekend and share with you all :)

Just thought I’d share some amazing work sent in by Brigitta, she’s found a great new use for Slice die cuts and shared with me two great tutorial. The two decorated cakes are made using edible paper in the Slice. How cool is that?

Great Idea from You Tube

I was just wandering around You Tube and found this great idea for using your slice. I have found a whole range of videos on creating items using your slice. Here is one for something a little different. It is making a babies outfit using your slice.

And if you are interrested, I have just been looking to try and work out where you could buy 'Freezer Paper' and it looks like Coles Stores (the larger ones) may stock it. I never knew it existed, but am now curious to go out and discover.

Here is a LO I did last month which I really love and most of it came together thanks to my Slice. The orange flowers and frog came from the Spring Design Card and the SAD title came from my Words and Expressions Design Card.

More uses for your Slice

Another LO to share. Well I'm actually sharing some old ones with you but when I talk about them here it is now based on how I used my slice to create the LO. After having my slice for awhile now, I don't think I am going to be using punches anymore. This is a LO I created for a challenge at Ready Set Scrap and I did some handmade flowers. I used my Slice to cut out three six petal flowers for each flower and then layered and rolled them (I found instructions online, but it required a flower punch). I also used my slice to cut the leaves and the Tag.

Sharing a simple card

Just wanted to share a simple card I made the other night with my slice and my new embossing tips. They work really well and I think will double the use of my cartridges. You are able to emboss every shape you have on your cartridge.... WONDERFUL. I did a very simple design for Father's day which is coming up in September (well here in Australia anyway).

I have used my slice Basic 2 cartridge for the embossed flower and for the butterfly. I have then used my Words and Expressions cartridge to cut "Father's Day".

My name is Anne and I started scrapbooking over four years go after the birth of my first son. I have two sons who are now four and two and live in Sunny Brisbane. I love to scrapook and for Christmas last year I asked my husband if I could have a Slice. He tried to get one for me but they had 'sold out' in Australia and so I had to wait until May for new supplies to arrive at my LSS. Since then I have loved using my slice and have developed another small addiction to getting new design cards. Caroline has asked me to share with you some of my work and as I make LO's using my slice I will be sharing them with you all and letting you know about my experiences and I know we will love to hear from you.

I have used the Basic 1 Design card to cut the word Love and I have used Basic 2 Design card to cut 1" flowers which are the same shape as the flowers on my cousin's daughters shoes.

I know we will love to hear from those of you who have a slice and to see and let us share creations with us.

Making Memories Slice Review

(Yeah I’m back a bit earlier but I thought I’d share a review I wrote about the Slice. The bit in italics are recent additions)

The Slice by Making Memories is the first digital cordless design cutter. It weighs less than 2 pounds (just under 1kg) and is less than 5 inches (12.7cm) square. The weight & size, and the fact it has a rechargeable battery makes it the perfect cutter to take with you when you go to crops (Optional accessories such as the Slice Signature Series Handbag make transport a breeze). The graphic interface of the Slice is easy to use and allows users to quickly select both the design and size (from1 inch to 4 inches in half inch increments).

Making Memories suggest the Slice cuts through cardstock, paper, vellum, vinyl, and photos up to .5 mm thick. I’ve personally tried it on cardstock, patterned paper, vellum and photos, all with some success (after playing with the blade settings).

The Slice is sold in a Starter Kit that includes: The Slice machine, Basic Shapes 1 design card, 6″ x 6″ glass cutting mat, 5 blades, blade replacement tool, repositionable tacky adhesive and a power cord.

There are a wide variety of Design Cards (the same size as SD Cards that go in your camera). Each card has a combination of alphabets, shapes and/or words/word art. A full list of cards can be found here. Since the cards are small it can be easy to loose them (I’ve already misplaced one of mine – but I did eventually find it again and now have all my cards in the Design Card Storage) but Making Memories have got a great solution for you – The Design Card Storage but on the upside the smaller cards take up less storage room than some other design cutter design cards.

Making Memories also released a heap of new cards at CHA and you can read about them here and the new PINK Slice here. Making Memories also announced some new functions that will be added with the newer cards – shadowing, mirroring and a speed boost AND (yes there is more) Drawing tips!!

Now a review of the Making Memories Slice would not be complete without mentioning the AWESOME site Making Memories have dedicated to the Slice – WhySlice.com The product page shows the wide variety of cards, storage solutions, accessories & papers designed for the Slice. The Support service at Making Memories is amazing – I had to contact them with a small problem I had with my Slice and they contacted me very quickly and solved my problem.
The Ideas gallery features some gorgeous work and the How To videos are a MUST WATCH (especially the optimising your paper video & blade replacement).

What I like about the Making Memories Slice

The size & weight – I’ve tried other cutters and this one takes up so little space and is light enough to lug around with me to crops.
The wide variety of designs. Each card contains a wide variety of designs and I think they are great value for money.
The manual is great – everything is well laid out and written in easy to understand language.
I LOVE how each design card comes with the Design book showing all the designs on the card.

What I don’t like about Making Memories Slice

I really have to agree with most of the reviews I have read on the Slice on the following:

the 6×6 cutting mat is too small and can create lots of paper waste. I would recommend purchasing the 12×12 mat (I know I’ll be getting one soon)
The spatula should come with the starter kit. it would make removing the cut designs from the cutting mat soo much easier. I ruined a heap of cut designs cause they were well stuck to the mat. (I’ve now got one – I bought the Tool Kit – it’s awesome)
The sizing should be in 1/4 inch increments and should start at 1/2 inch instead of 1 inch.

What I think.

Overall, I love my Slice and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a smaller, portable cutter. It is so easy to use and the learning videos on the Why Slice site making the learning curve really simple.

Welcome to my new blog – it’s all about sharing my love of one of my favourite tools (the Making Memories Slice) and creations made with the Slice.

This blog aims to share creations made with the Slice, be they scrapbook layouts, cards, Off the Page items, household decor.

I’ll also be sharing news & updates from Making Memories about the Slice, Design Cards and accessories.
